Kokomo Tribune September 16, 2024By Tribune Sports Staff Led by individual champion Camden Raab, Western took fourth place out of 17 teams in the Gold Division of Shelbyville's Golden Bear Invitational. Roncalli won the division with 71 points. Wapahani was second with 95, Guerin Catholic was third with 99 and Western was fourth with 101. "Since Shelbyville runs both divisions together on a purpose-built course, it offered a rare opportunity to compete against some teams we wouldn't normally see from the Indianapolis area like Fishers, Mt. Vernon and Roncalli as well as an out-of-state team like two-time Michigan state champion Northville," Western coach Gary Jewell said. "I thought we ran well considering we were on an unfamiliar course competing mostly against teams we're not likely to encounter outside of the state finals." Raab covered the course in 16:03.6. "Camden ran near the front the entire race with Northville's pack," Jewell said. Also for Western, Miles Rudy (16:47.7) was fifth, Maddox Carver (17:46.9) was 22nd, Beck Bennett (18:00.5) was 31st and Lincoln McKillip (18:33.6) was 45th. "Miles, Maddox, Beck and Lincoln all did a great job moving up the last three kilometers. Those four picked up 32 places," Jewell said. |
