Western posted a score of 378 and finished 12th out of 23 complete teams in Harrison’s invitational. Penn was the runaway winner with 57. Portage’s Shane Conroy topped the 198-runner field with a time of 15:21.

Western’s top five runners were: Camden Raab (15:57.4, sixth place); Maddox Carver (17:00, 53rd); Beck Bennett (18:05.6, 102nd); Lincoln McKillip (18:14.2, 110th); and Jace Bagley (19:15.8, 146th).

"We ran a little short-handed,” Western coach Gary Jewell said. “Miles Rudy was still feeling the after-effect from a workout we did earlier in the week and didn’t feel comfortable racing. Most kids will insist they’re good to go even though they’re not. That was a really mature thing for Miles to say. And when you’re looking at the bigger picture, it was definitely the right thing to do.

"Even without Miles in the lineup, we ran remarkably well. Six of our eight athletes who competed set new personal bests, some by a couple seconds and others by 30 or 40. Our cumulative time was better than it was two weeks ago when we were full strength."
