BOYS MEET

Western earned the top area finish in the class AA medium school division, placing 11th out of 26 complete teams and seven incomplete squads. Andrew Granfield took 53rd in 18:33 for the Panthers' top finish.

"We met our expectations [Saturday]," Western coach Gary Jewell said. "It was good to have all of our guys running this week. The big thing, we talked before the race about running intelligently the first half and running with your heart the second half. I think it showed."

Northwestern was 25th in the AA race. Jacob Myers paced the Tigers, taking 78th in 19:24.

"I thought the guys did a good job," NW coach Dave Stevens said. "They attacked the course as they have been all year and I was pleased with their performance."

Eastern took eighth as a team in the class A small school division. Josh Reprogle was the top Comet finisher, crossing 43rd in 18:42.

"We felt like our guys were in a good spot to finish well as a team," Eastern coach Ben Cox said. "It was exciting to see them keep trying."

The Kokomo boys placed 31st of 34 teams in the class AAA large school division. Corey Dea placed 146th in 18:38.


GIRLS MEET

Cass' Miah Martin ran to a first-place finish in the class A small school division of Saturday's New Prairie Invite, crossing in 19:22 with teammate Alexis Jackson taking second in 19:28 as the Kings earned the top area finish in the small school division, taking fifth place out of 26 complete teams.

Maconaquah ran to the best area finish in the class AA medium school division, taking sixth out of 23 complete teams and another nine incomplete squads. The Braves' Madison Winegardner earned an eighth-place finish in 19:46.

Western was eighth in the AA division. Olivia Lushin was the fastest Panther, taking 21st overall in 20:48.

"It was good to see Natalie [Nicholson] and Emma [Marley] back out on the course," Western coach Joni Neer said of the two Panthers who are returning from illness. "We still have a ways to go but at least they got their feet on the ground again. Still really happy with where the Lushins [Olivia and Hannah] are right now."

Northwestern was 12th in the AA race. Lauren Longshore led the Tigers, taking 22nd in 20:55.

"As a team they did very well," NW coach Dave Stevens said. "Lauren and Casey [Lechner, 27th] led us again with getting awards. They keep pushing the top of the team there and leading everybody. I was happy with what they did and the other girls as well."

Eastern was ninth in the class A small school division. Ella Kantz crossed in 22:05 to take 32nd overall for the Comets' top finish.

"The girls ran their race strategy really well," Eastern coach Ben Cox said. "They exceeded out expectations. I feel pretty good about it and I think they feel pretty good about it too."

Kokomo finished 32nd as a team in the class AAA large school division. Taylor Walden logged the Kats' top finish in a time of 25:16.
