BOYS RACE

Western turned in the top finish at the newly named Jacob Graf Memorial Invite on Saturday with a team score of 59.

"We packed it up," Panther coach Gary Jewell said. "Our goal was to run in a pack as long as we could. We were the only team with multiple guys in the top ten."

Andrew Granfield logged Western's top finish, crossing in 18:24 to earn fifth place. Right on his heels was Brayden Curnutt in sixth at 18:25. Alex Taylor turned in a ninth place finish for Western (18:32), Tyler Lechner was 14th (18:45) and Chandler Ciscell 27th (19:29).

The host Berries were second at 76 with Logan runner Christian Dawson finishing first overall at 17:48. Cass' Bailey Scott was third individually at 17:52.

Maconaquah was third as a team at 100 while Kokomo followed in fourth at 110.

Corey Dea medaled for the Kats with a third-place finish of 18:12 and Maconaquah's Caleb Winegardner was fourth in 18:20.

Also for Kokomo were Justin Taflinger (13th, 18:41), Alex Ward (22nd, 19:13), Julian Wallace (35th, 20:00) and Rafael Lopez (42nd, 20:33).

Cass was fifth (118), followed by Eastern in sixth (129) Winamac in seventh (162) and Northwestern in eighth (193).

Jack Johnson finished in 17th (18:55) for the Comets. Also for Eastern were Caleb Vogl (20th, 19:08), Josh Reprogle (25th, 19:18), Seth Snyder (29th, 19:39) and Brayden Richmond (44th, 20:21).

Individually for NW, Jacob Myers medaled with a seventh-place run of 18:28. He was followed by Mitchell Harrell (43rd, 20:33), Jace Cournoyer (46th, 20:51), Mason Correll (51st, 21:04) and Nick Jozwiak (54th, 21:08).

Tipton was ninth (194) and Peru 10th (233).

The top Bengal Tiger finish belonged to Adam Garner, who was eighth in 18:29. Also for the Tigers were Nathan Moore (23:22), Trey Sturgill (23:25) and Jacob Black (25:37).


BOYS RACE

Maconaquah took the top girls finish with a score of 51 as Madison Winegardner finished second overall in 20:11. Other Braves included Bailey Hays (11th, 22:14), Karly Miller (12th, 22:18), Haley Salinas (14th, 23:00), and Haley Wimmer (16th, 23:18).

Western finished second on the day with a team score of 58. Cass was third (87), followed by Northwestern at 103.

Casey Lechner raced to a fifth-place finish in 20:58 for the Tigers, followed by Lauren Longshore in sixth place at 21:12. Adri Freeman (29th, 24:17), Sophia Yager-Motl (32nd, 24:24) and Sarah Heaver (42nd, 25:41) rounded out Northwestern's top five.

"The top four girls all ran faster times than they did a year ago at this time," NW coach Dave Stevens said. "So we're in a little better shape than we were at this time last year. I'm happy with that. And I'm happy with the fourth-place finish. Casey and Lauren, they both went after it to get medals."

Eastern was seventh with a team score of 145. Ella Kantz logged the Comets top finish, crossing in ninth place at 22:01. Following her were Molly Hapner (22nd, 23:46), Katrina Witt (30th, 24:19), Olivia Vogl (38th, 25:05) and Erin Matheny (75th, 29:03).

Kokomo finished ninth as a team with a score of 228 as Taylor Walden took 20th for the Kats in a time of 23:26.

Peru had an incomplete score but individually, Jaelin Richardson finished fourth in 20:58 and Mya Lancaster was 27th in 24:08.
