Miah Martin of Cass and Cami Hansen of Taylor narrowly missed out on advancing to the state meet on the girls side, posting the best local finishes. No local runners advanced to state.

BOYS RACE

Cass' Cail Brown came in 40th place (16:40.2) to lead a contingent of five local individuals running in the boys meet.

Western's Josh Everetts finished 43rd in 16:40 and Josh Scott was 162nd in 19:05. Both finished their seasons at New Prairie.

"We told [Everetts] that he needed to be in position at about the 2K mark so he could make a charge toward the end of the race and he was sitting about 30th place then," Western coach Gary Jewell said. "Same thing at 3K, but at 4K he fell back about 10 spots and that's about where he finished. His time wasn't bad, 16:40 is good for that course. But historically, if you want to grab one of those 10 individual spots you probably need to finish in the top 20.

"Josh Scott had an off day. He told me 'I never felt like I was in the race.' I think he ran one of his fastest first kilometers of the year and he was way in the back and thought 'how does that happen?' He got shuffled to the back and he never really recovered from that."

Kokomo's Ethan Sharp finished in 79th place (17:08), and Max White was 159th (18:49).

West Lafayette won the team competition with a score of 77, led by individual champ Cooper Williams, who clocked a time of 15:38.

GIRLS RACE

Martin missed out on advancing to state competition by .2 seconds. Martin was 22nd overall with a time of of 19:27.2. Benton Central's Cara Hasser took the final spot with a 21st-place finish at 19:27.0. The top 10 runners not on advancing teams qualify for state as individuals.

Taylor's Cami Hansen finished 24th, just three runners off the last advancing individual spot. She ran the course in 17:58.

"With her time and effort, we were really expecting that to be enough [to get to state] and it just wasn't. But it was a great effort. Great run, great season," said Taylor coach Matt Carlile.

Maconaquah finished in 16th place with a score of 401, Northwestern was 19th (491), and Western came in 20th (513).

Madison Winegardner led Maconaquah with a 61st-place finish (20:32). Olivia Winegardner was 82nd (20:50). Haley Wimmer came in 90th (20:58). Rebekah Shinn placed 132nd (21:53), and Bailey Hays was 150th (22:20).

Casey Lechner was 101st to lead Northwestern in 21:08. Jensen Freeman was 122nd in 21:39. Kate Bilkey was 138th in 22:02. Sophia Yager-Motl was 141st in 22:05. Nicole Crocker was 152nd in 22:23.

"We had a tremendous season, but [Saturday], all seven of the girls set a course best up there at New Prairie," NW coach Dave Stevens said. "That made me very happy for them going out, giving it their all. It's a great tribute to our two seniors, Jensen Freeman and Rebecca Sims, also a great starting point for all the girls coming back next year."

Western was led by Erin Knepley with a 97th finish (21:04.7), followed by Reagan Ritchie (133rd, 21:53.08), Taylor Walden (142nd, 22:06.1), Allison McMinn (147th, 22:16.2) and Natalie Nicholson (22:35.0).

Lake Central won the team competition with a blistering 55. West Lafayette's Lauren Johnson was the fastest individual, finishing in 17:58.
