The girls cross country squads from Western, Northwestern and Maconaquah finished 3-4-5 Saturday at the Culver Academies Regional to advance to next Saturday’s New Prairie Semistate.

Warsaw won with a dominant 25 points, followed by Manchester (92), Western (119), Northwestern (141) and Maconaquah (145). The top five teams, as well as the top 10 individuals on non-advancing teams, qualify for the semistate.

I think it would have been an out-of-this-world run to get past Manchester,” Western coach Joni McCracken said. “We knew the 3rd through 6th spots were going to be tight. The girls knew what they had to do. We were extremely happy with our place.”

Cass’ Miah Martin and Taylor’s Cami Hansen also advanced as individuals.

“This was a great day for Cami, a career-best time but not unexpected,” Taylor coach Matt Carlile said.

Erin Knepley led Western’s charge with a ninth-place finish (20:06), followed by Reagan Ritchie (24th, 20:57), Natalie Nicholson (31st, 21:11), Allison McMinn (35th, 21:28), and Emma Marley (45th, 21:38).

Wow, that was obviously a career-best for Erin,” McCracken said. “It was a phenomenal race for her and, as a senior, she was really happy with where she ended up. Reagan had a great run as well, and our 3rd, 4th and 5th runners ran very well too.

Casey Lechner paced Northwestern (19th, 20:47), followed by Sophia Yager-Motl (36th, 21:29), Jensen Freeman (37th, 21:29), Nicole Crocker (38th, 21:30), and Rebecca Sims (39th, 21:32).

“Casey and Rebecca each set PR’s,” Northwestern coach Dave Stevens said. “When we didn’t hear our name called for 6th, we were quite happy, and moving up to 4th was an even better feeling for us. We are quite excited. I knew the girls were ready to do this. They’ve been business-like all year the way they’ve approached things. Our one through six runners were :52 apart. That builds so much confidence when you run as a team like that.”

Madison Winegardner led Maconaquah, finishing 21st in 20:51. She was followed by Haley Wimmer (25th, 20:59), Olivia Winegardner (26th, 21:00), Rebekah Shinn (50th, 21:51), and Bailey Hays (56th, 22:11).

Cass’ Martin surged to a semistate spot as an individual, taking third overall in 19:31. Also for Cass, Morgan Mundy was 70th (22:59) and Alexis Jackson was 77th (23:31).Taylor’s Hansen also scored a high finish to advance, taking fifth in 19:37.

Eastern’s Carly Jones was 29th in 21:08.

Peru’s Jaelin Richardson was 51st (21:52) and Anna Boyer was 54th (22:06), Kokomo’s Cinnamon Andrews was 60th (22:20)

Five local runners advanced to next Saturday’s New Prairie Semistate: Western’s Josh Everetts (7th, 16:27) and Josh Scott (28th, 17:41); Kokomo’s Ethan Sharp (15th, 17:03) and Max White (31st, 17:46); and Cass’ Cail Brown (11th, 16:45).

Additionally for Kokomo, Austin Cordell Brandon was 41st (18:09), Corey Dea was 45th (18:20) and Colten Pearce was 52nd (18:32).

Also for Western, Alex Taylor was 50th (18:27), Andrew Granfield was 56th (18:40) and Tyler Lechner was 61st (18:50).

We had three guys that ran personal bests,” Western coach Gary Jewell said, noting Everetts, Scott and Granfield set new best times. “Josh and Josh, those are the two guys that have really been training hard this year. It’s a great reflection on them that they get to move on.

Jewell said that Everetts’ times indicate he’ll be in the mix to advance to the state meet. Jewell is also happy how the Panthers have closed the season, with their last three meets being their best three meets of the season.

You want to be running your best at this point of the season,” he said.

For Maconaquah, Tyler Dietzel was 37th (18:01) and Adam Rood was 44th (18:20). Cass’ Lucas Bowman was 60th (18:48) and Hayden Vest was 80th (19:41).
