LOGANSPORT INVITE Boys Race Western finished first as a team with 39 points at the invite, taking the team title for the first time since 1977, while Kokomo’s Ethan Sharp finished first overall in 16:44 as the Kats came in third with a 79 behind Twin Lakes 71. “Ethan ran a very smart race and gained ground in the second mile,” Kats coach Ricke Stucker said. “We were happy with our performance and where we are right now. We closed in on Twin Lakes but we just couldn’t close in on Western. They are the real deal.” The Panthers placed four runners in the top 10, starting with Riley Carter, who finished fourth overall at 17:05. Following him were Josh Everetts (fifth, 17:24), Caleb Maddox (sixth, 17:37), and Auston Davenport (seventh, 17:37). Josh Scott rounded out Western’s top five with an 18th-place finish in a time of 18:17. “I thought the last two races we were running on tired legs and you could tell our bodies had caught up to training [Tuesday],” Western coach Gary Jewell said. “We approached this like a dress rehearsal for sectionals. Top to bottom, the whole team ran well. We had a lot of guys run PR’s.” Colten Pearce finished 17th for the Kats in 18:16. Logan Hawk finished 20th with a time of 18:22, while Max McHaney was 22nd at 18:25. Jadyn Whitehead finished in 23rd place at 18:28. Following Perry for the Tigers were Owen Munson (47th, 19:27), Spencer Hutchins (50th, 19:30), Taylor McLain (55th, 19:43) and Jake Duranto (61st, 20:04). It has been great to see different girls run solid in that spot for us this year.” Wimmer finished 16th in 21:32 followed by Vanessa Frazier (21st, 22:11).
