NEW PRAIRIE INVITE

The Eastern girls cross country team finished 14th out of 27 teams in the Class A race at the huge New Prairie Invitational Saturday.

Eastern finished with a score of 356. For the Comets, Avery Ewing was 13th in 21:12. Carly Jones was 14th in 21:19, Sydnie Hill was 65th in 23:50, Kaylee Gebhart was 139th in 27:05, and Kaitlyn Adair was 170th in 29:52.

"Carly and Avery both medaled, the top 15 got medals, there were 194 in the race," Eastern coach Ben Cox said. "They placed well, I think they both felt like they would have liked to run better times."

Cox noted that Hill ran very well and thought that she'd have had a season best if it had been on a flat course. Cox said Ewing and Jones are training very well but that on Saturday it didn't carry over as they'd expected.

"If we can get everybody on, on the same day, I think we can do pretty well," he said.

Further results from New Prairie were unavailable due to the timing system malfunctioning at NP. The Girls Class A race was early in the day and unaffected, but other races were run without timing or points, leaving teams in the dark as to results.

New Prairie officials said they were going to go through video to try and determine winners. Results will be posted on the NPHS website, www.npusc.k12.in.us, as soon as possible.

Boys Race

Josh Everetts posted the top finish for Western at New Prairie. Places and times were unavailable due to the aforementioned timing malfunction.

This was a big week for us in terms of training,” Western coach Gary Jewell said. “Josh ran well. Riley [Carter] had a good race too. I think he just kind of ran out of gas near the end, maybe in the last half mile or so.
