BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

ROSSVILLE INVITE

Western finished first out of five complete teams at the Invite with 30 points. Rossville, who had the top overall finisher in Solmon Heffernan with a time of 17:51, finished second overall with a 55.

We had to approach this meet rather carefully,” Panther coach Gary Jewell said. “We didn’t want to have tired legs with a big invite at Marion on Saturday. We did some pack running and then had them pick it up the last 3K. I know Riley Carter usually will run a heck of a lot faster.

Carter finished third overall at 19:03. Josh Everetts was sixth at 19:22, while Caleb Maddox (7th, 19:26) and Auston Davenport (8th, 19:28) finished within a hair of one another.

Josh Scott rounded out the top five, finishing 10th overall at 20:07.

I’m really pleased with Josh Scott,” Jewell said. “We really need him to be a consistent fifth man, and he turned in a really good performance.

Alex Taylor finished in 11th place (20:16) and Cooper O’Neal was 18th overall with a time of 20:51.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

ROSSVILLE INVITE

Western finished first out of seven teams at the Invite, with a pair of freshmen turning in the top times for the Panthers.

Taylor Walden ran to a third place overall finish with a time of 23:15, while Logan Buck took fourth at 23:35. Allison McMinn was fifth, finishing just a tick behind Buck at 23:36.

Our top girls [in the meet], Taylor and Logan, are both freshmen and Allison is a sophomore, and I couldn’t have asked for any more out of those three girls,” Western coach Joni McCracken said. “We kept out two of our top runners to rest, and we hoped some younger girls would take on some leadership roles. That turned out to be just the case.

Cora Johnson ran to an eighth-place finish with a time of 24:17, while Taylor Nunan finished 15th at 25:26.
