FOUNTAIN C. GRAND PRIX

Western took first in the 17-team gathering at Fountain Central, with a score of 51. Greencastle was second with 72, Perry Meridian was third at 113 and McCutcheon fourth at 147.

Riley Carter finished third to lead the Panthers, finishing in 17:56. Caleb Maddox finished seventh in 18:30, followed by Josh Everetts in eighth in the same time. Auston Davenport finished 11th in 18:41. And Alex Taylor was 26th in 19:48.

This is the second year in a row that we’ve won it,” Western coach Gary Jewell said. “I thought we ran pretty well. Any time that you put four guys in the top 11, that was really good for us. We still have a big question mark, a considerable distance between our fourth and our fifth man, but they’re getting a little closer.

Any time you run against a couple big schools, especially McCutcheon, they’re in our semistate, that usually bodes pretty well.
