Howard County sent thirty harriers to the New Prairie Semi-State contest with four runners finishing in the top fifteen. Eastern’s Robert Duke, Western’s Matt Grider, and Kokomo’s Jeremy Breedlove finished 7th, 8th, and 12th respectively in the boys race while Northwestern’s Taryn Thor finished 6th on the grueling course. Western’s girls team finished the highest of the team qualifiers in 15th with Eastern taking an incomplete team score with less than five runners. Taylor’s breakout runner, Cami Hansen, finished with a time of 21:16.5 after battling injuries the past few weeks. Western’s boys team finished 14th and Kokomo ended up 17th as a team. Both squads sent individual qualifiers on to the state meet. Looking ahead to the state meet on Saturday November 2, Grider and Duke will share lane one in the final race of the season, flanked by the teams of South Knox and West Lafayette. Breedlove (lane 18) will be surrounded by individual qualifiers. In the girls race, Thor (lane 6) will start in the lane next to the Pendleton Heights team on one side, and individual qualifiers on the other. |
