Culver Invitational |
Boys MeetKokomo took 31st in the big-school race. Adrian Glover paced the Kats taking 39th in 16:10, followed by Dylan Walker (96th, 16:39), Brent Noll (199th, 18:00), Matt Scharenbroch (212,18:43), and Jeremy Breedlove (220, 19:20). "We lowered our team time by 14 seconds and had four of seven runners set all-time personal bests," Kokomo coach Ricke Stucker said. "It was a productive day in arguably the best CC invitational in the state." Western's team was listed as finishing seventh with a score of 244 in the small-school race though Panther coach Gary Jewell said the scoring was in dispute because some runners from Western and Maconaquah were left out of the initial tally. For Western, Chris Love was ninth (16:40), Christopher Nunan was 36th (17:29), Matt Grider was 46th (17:39), and Ben Bradshaw finished in 17:55 but was omitted in the order of finishers. He should have been counted in 68th place. Also Braxton Bagwell was listed in 77th (18:02). "Sometimes when you get in a race that has many people — I believe there were about 250 finishers — if you have a gap in your runners on your team, that gets amplified greatly," Jewell said. He also noted personal bests from Nunan and also Bradshaw, who broke the 18-minute mark for the first time. Eastern didn't field a complete team. Sam Clark finished 107th (18:23) in the small-school race, Lewis Duke was 110th (18:25) and John Lee was 225th (29:32). The Comets ran Ryan Horner in the large-school race where he took 91 st (16:36). "Lewis Duke did an excellent job again," Mink said. "Ryan did an excellent job, got another personal best. Even though you look at 91 st place, it looks way back there but it was a tremendously fast field. It was a great test for him to rub shoulders with the best guys in the Midwest. He did a great job." Carroll took ninth in the small-school race. Blake Mills led the Cougars with a fifth-place finish in 16:20, followed by Jordan Tooley (30th, 17:22), Brian Bordner (45th, 17:36), Tallis Bowers (51st, 17:38) and Cory Ritter (128th, 18:40). "Overall we did a great job," Western coach Joni McCracken said. "We had three girls run [personal records]. Specifically, Cara Love had an excellent race. She's running a couple minutes faster than what she was last year at this time." For the Comets, Brittany Neeley was sixth in 19:33 Emily Wilcox was 35th (21:13), An Rinaldo was 73rd (22:15), Bailey Pressey was 104th (22:50) and Cambry Martin was 123rd Bethany Neeley ran as an individual in the large-school race. "It was a super day to run, perfect weather conditions, fast course, great competition. We did very well We had a lot of significant drops in personal bests and we're coming together pretty well here in time for conference coming up in just over a week.
