PREP ROUNDOUP: Rossville InvitationalBoys MeetWestern took top honors with 38 points, followed by Carroll (43) and Horizon (68) to round out the top three. The Panthers' Matt Grider was second overall (17:55). Christopher Nunan (18:33), Braxton Bagwell (18:35) and Kyle Starich (18:46) placed seventh through ninth respectively, and Ben Bradshaw was 11th (19:12). "I sat out Chris Love, because he needed rest," Western coach Gary Jewell said. "I knew running without him, it would be a close race. I had the boys go out slow, and move after the first mile. Grider was 20th at the mile, and he ended up in second place. He is a very good addition to our team. Overall, we did pretty well, considering the little handicap that I gave them." Girls raceWestern was the top team with a score of 32, while Tipton (78), Delphi (79) and Carroll (79) rounded out the four top teams. The Panthers' Corianne Myer was the overall winner in a time of 21:28. Western's Krissy Durr was seventh (22:44). Erin Weber took 10th (23:24), and Bre Nicholas placed 12th (24:19). "It was a little bit difficult for us, [Thursday]," Western coach Joni McCracken said. "I found them running alone. I usually have a pack of second through fifth. I would like to keep the pack tight at the end. It was Myer's first win in cross country. She was running by herself for the last half of the race." |
