Rossville Invitational

Boys Meet

Western was tops in the invitational with a score of 42. Rossville came second (64), followed by Carroll (68).

The Panthers' Austin Young covered the course in 16 minutes, 32 seconds to finish first. Other Western runners included Chris Love (fourth place, 17:23), John Capps (eighth place, 17:52), Christopher Nunan (13th, 18:28) and Ben Bradshaw (16th, 18:49).

"I was really happy with how it went," WHS coach Gary Jewell said. "Young ran a personal best as did our sixth man, Braxton Bagwell. I was very pleased with that. Last year, Capps wasn't close to 18 minutes, but this year, he has broken it."

Girls race

Western (24) ran away from the pack to win the Rossville Invitational. Carroll (54), Tipton (68) and Delphi (83) rounded out the complete teams and Pioneer and Rossville also participated.

Western put four runners in the top six — Corianne Myer (third place, 22:14); Krissy Durr (fourth, 22:26); Kelsey Durr (fifth, 22:43) and Bre Nicholas (sixth, 22:44). Kayla Gaskins took 12th place in 23:26 for their fifth score.

"I thought the girls did a better job of racing, competing, against the other girls. It was the best I've seen so far this year so I was really pleased with that," Western coach Bo Britton said.

"This week we have gotten two girls back who hadn't been running this year [Gaskins and Krissy Durr] and that provided a boost to me team," he added.

Tipton's Eroica Stackhouse took first place. She covered the course in 21:32. Seventh-place finisher Bridgett Peden (22:53) led Carroll.
