Boys Meet

No. 20-ranked Western finished in seventh place with a score of 211 in the Purple Division, the larger of the two classes. No. 2 Carroll of Allen County won the division with a score of 50.

Corey Scott took third to lead ead Western in 16:04. Austin Young was 25th in 16:40, Zac Martinez Was 59th 17:21, Kody Harmon was 60th (17:21), Chris Love was 64th (17:25), John Capps was 73rd (17:29), Ben Bradshaw was 155th (19:18).

"Corey Scott ran another really good race — the second Saturday in a row he's set a personal record. There was really good competition there and he had a good run," Western coach Joe Orr said, noting other PRs from Love, Capps and Young. "I thought they all did a really good job. It's just really good competition."

Blake Dircksen of Noblesville was the individual winner in a time of 15:38.

Norwell won the 23-team Gold Division with a score of 81.

Northwestern was 16th with a Score of 417.

Kory Kennedy led Northwestern with a fifth-place finish (16:41). Sam Freeman was 44th (18:25), Steve Vas was 115th (20:26), Kyle Condon was 132nd (21:31), Hayden Jarvis 139th (22:23) and Jeremy Catt was 150th (25:47).

"[It was] Kory Kennedy's best race of his life personal best; fifth place was an outstanding finish," NW coach Dave Stevens said. He noted particularly strong runs from Vas and Condon. "Five of my eight boys set personal bests, so I'm really proud of their effort overall."

Western and Northwestern run in the Logansport Invitational Tuesday.

Girls race

Western won the Gold Division, which featured the smaller schools in the field. Western had a score of 99, Napoleon of Ohio (110) followed in second place and Northwestern (145) took third in the 18-team field. Eastern had an incomplete team. Ashley Gaskins led the Panthers' balanced attack. She covered the course in 20:50 and finished 15th in the field of 135 runners. Corianne Myer (18th place, 20:56), Krissy Durr (22nd, 21:03), Jenn Elliott (27th, 21:24) and Kayla Gaskins (31st, 21:31) rounded out the Panthers' top five.

Also for the Panthers, Bre Nicholas (22:13) took 50th and Kelsey Durr (23:06) came in 69th. Hannah Ault led Northwestern, taking ninth in 20:27. Nicki Hendricks was 16th (20:54), Gretchen Catron was 24th (21:14), Morgan Hullinger was 53rd (22:30), Lauren Dewhurst was 59th (22:35), Ruby Sanchez was 79th (23:39) and Laura Wiley was 100th (24:38).

"We had 10 girls race, eight out of the 10 set personal bests on a semistate course. That's just a tremendous effort," said a fired-up NW coach Dave Stevens. "And we also had one girl set a season best. The girls all responded well to the competition, the course and everything. I was quite happy with their effort."
