Boys MeetWestern placed five runners in the top 10 for a sizzling score of 23 to easily win the 13-team invitational. Blackford (96), Eastbrook (105), Oak Hill (106) and Peru (125) rounded out the top five. Eastern (187) came in seventh and Tipton (247) took 10th. Individual winner Corey Scott covered the course in Corey Scott 16:39 to lead Western. Austin Young (17:00), Zac Martinez (17:15) and Kody Harmon (17:27) finished third through fifth and Chris Love (17:52) came in 10th to round out the Panthers' team score. Also for Western, John Capps (18:06) and Kyle Starich (19:05) took 12th and 26th, respectively. "I was pleased," Western coach Joe Orr said. "I thought John Capps, a freshman, ran really well. Corey Scott did a good job winning it and Austin Young also had a good performance." Individual runner-up Aaron Garretson led Peru. He covered the course in 16:55. Shannon Garretson (17:58, 11th place), Jordan Garretson (18:49, 23rd), Nick Lipari (20:00, 44th) and Tyler Kintner (20:24, 56th) completed the Bengal Tigers' top five. Western runs in the Maconaquah Invitational on Saturday. Girls raceWestern posted a winning score of 30 after putting its top five runners in the top 10. Jenn Elliott (20:59, third place); Corianne Myer (21:23, fifth); Krissy Durr (21:33, sixth); Kayla Gaskins (21:50, seventh) and Ashley Gaskins (22:00, ninth) formed the Panther pack. Also for the Panthers, Kelsey Durr (23:11) finished 18th and Bre Nicholas (23:28) finished 21st. "Krissy Durr, Corianne Myer and Kelsey Durr all ran really good races for us," Western coach Heather Yentes said, "and then we were successful again because we were able to get that pack in there, getting third, fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth. As long as we can continue to do that, then we should find success." Western runs in the Maconaquah Invitational on Saturday. |
