Rossville Invitational

Boys Meet

The Panthers weren't challenged as they claimed first place among the eight teams. Western finished with 16 points while Carroll was runner-up at 58. Tipton came in sixth with 145.

Western runners grabbed the first four individual spots as Corey Scott came in at 16:57 for first. He was followed by teammates Austin Young, Zac Martinez and Kody Harmon. Carroll's Tyler Macy was fifth, edging Western's Chris Love by three seconds to keep the Panthers from a perfect score. Levi Bess had Tipton's best finish in 10th.

"It was raining off and on this evening, but the conditions were better to run in than Tuesday when it was hot," Panther coach Joe Orr said. "The times were decent for this caliber of event this early in the season."

Girls race

Ashley Gaskins led the way as Western dominated the top 10 in finishing first in the seven-team Rossville Invitational with a score of 23. Carroll was second (43) and Tipton third (72). The other four squads were incomplete.

Ashley Gaskins led Western with a second-place finish (20:52), Jenn Elliott was third (21:03), Corianne Myer was sixth (21:23), Krissy Durr was seventh (21:24), Kayla Gaskins was eighth (21:27), Bre Nicholas was ninth (21:51) and Lacey Myer was 18th (23:32).

Western coach Heather Yentes was encouraged by her team's pack in the race.

"The pack running has continued to be successful for us and I know the girls have been working together and encouraging each other," Yentes said. "It's what's helped us to win all our meets."

Western runs Tuesday in the Oak Hill Invitational.

Carroll was led by Ashley Bordner, who took first in 20:35. Tipton was led by Eroica Stack-house, who was fifth in 21:19.
