GIRLS MEET

Western (93) took first and Huntington North (114) followed in second in the 16-team meet. Carroll (141) came in fourth and Northwestern (179), Maconaquah (224), Tipton (232), Cass (237) and Kokomo (251) finished eighth through 12th. Also, Peru (351) came in 14th.

Jenn Elliott (21:27) led Western with a fourth-place finish. Other Panther runners included Corianne Myer (21:40, seventh place), Bre Nicholas (22:36, 20th), Lacey Myer (23:09, 30th) and Kayla Gaskins (23:10, 32nd).

"The girls all ran really, really good races," Western coach Heather Yentes said. "I am proud of the way that they really wanted to win the race and they accomplished that goal."

Rensselaer's Casey Boose edged Northwestern's Jennifer Claudio for first place. Each had a time of 20:46.

"Jennifer ran a great race," Northwestern coach Dave Stevens said." I thought she was going to win. She came in neck and neckwith [Boose] in the end. Overall, I thought the course was a good 30 'to 35 seconds slower [Tuesday] due to the weather. Jennifer was able to still run a good time."

Also for the Purple Tigers, Hannah Ault (21:59) finished 10th, Gretchen Catron (23:46) was 42nd, Morgan Hullinger (24:20) was 56th and Ruby Sanchez (24:57) came me in 70th. Stevens also noted Allie Combs, who finished 85th in a personal-best time of 26:52.

BOYS MEET

Huntington North posted a score of 33 to win the 16-team meet and Western (78) edged Kokomo (79) for second place. Maconaquah (177), Carroll (184) and Peru (190) rounded out the ton six. Tipton (252) took 10th. Northwestern (265) took 12th and Cass (326) was 13th.

Zac Martinez (17:28) led Western with a seventh-place finish. Corey Scott (17:38, ninth place), Kody Harmon (18:00, 15th), Chris Love (18:15, 20th) and Michael Ladd (18:47, 29th) rounded out the Panthers top five.

"It was a very close one with Kokomo," Western coach Joe Orr said. "I would say that we're pretty well matched at this point of the season.The guys competed pretty well with Kokomo and the rest of the field. Individually, time wise we weren't good, but (Tuesday] was the best time for Ladd, who is normally our sixth or seventh runner"

For Kokomo, Devin White (17:41) and Ian Hopson (17:42) finished 10th and 11th, Brandon Sheline (17:46) was 13th and Vince Calabro (18:24) and Jordan Lee (18:25) finished 23rd and 24th

For Peru, Aaron Garretson (17:10) led the way with a third-place finish. Other Bengal Tiger runners were Shannon Garretson (18:32, 25th), Nathan Gillespie (19:13, 40th), Jordan Garretson (19:21, 43rd) and Sonny Orneleas (21:40, 85th).

"The boys aren't satisfied with their times," Peru coach Gary Downing said. "It's late in the season and they have run a lot. Their times are all right and we will be all right. They are placing good though, and they just have to keep working." Kory Kennedy (17:58, 14th place) and Sam Freeman (18:17, 22nd) led Northwestern. Joe Williams (19:59, 58th), Bryce Bousum (21:50, 89th) and Chris Vas (21:57, 92nd) rounded out its top five.

"I was impressed with the guys' effort," Northwestern coach Dave Stevens said. "By the time they ran, it had started to rain. ft wasn't raining hard, but the course got slower. Kory ran strong, but the weather wasn't to his advantage. Sam Freeman ran a strong race for us and Bryce Bousum ran well too."
