Western won the invitational with a score of 34. The Panthers were five points better then second place Carroll (39).
The Panthers' Katie Hollingsworth came across the finish lines first in 21 minutes, 04 seconds. Jenn Elliott came in third (22:01), and Corianne Myer rounded out the top six (22:23). Western's Lacey Myer placed 12th (23:05), and Bre Nicholas was 13th (23:07).
"Hollingsworth is continuing to run very good races," Western coach Heather Yentes said. "Corianne stepped up and helped us get points. She also had a personal best in her time. Jenn Elliott and Lacey did really well."
Western took six of the top 12 individual spots in running away with the team victory in the seven-team event. Western posted a score of 32. Pioneer (67), Carroll (74), Tipton (76), Rossvile (131), Delphi (161) and Heritage Christian (183) rounded out the field.
Pioneer's Ryan Bice covered the course in 17:04 to lead all runners. Tipton's Brady Butler (17:31) took second place and Western's Zac Martinez (17:38) followed in third place.
Also for Western, Corey Scott (17:58) was fourth, Chris Love (18:10) was sixth, Austin Young (18:34) took eighth and Kody Harmon (18:38) and Michael Ladd (18:43) finished 11th and 12th, respectively. Kyle Young (19:55) rounded out the Panther contingent with a 26th-place finish.
"I was very pleased," Western, coach Joe Orr said. "They give medals to the top seven, so we had three medalists, and Austin Young ran his best race of the season and finished eighth. Everybody ran well. I think this is the first time we've won this in a couple of years. I think the guys are pretty excited."
Western runs in the Oak Hill Invitational on Tuesday.
