Western came in third place to lead the local squads in the muddy 12-team meet at Oakbrook Valley.
No. 3-ranked Carmel (26) ran away with the team title, No. 9 West Lafayette (49) came in second and Western (93), Northwestern (179), Rochester (181), Kokomo (183), Oak Hill (202), Eastbrook (204), Maconaquah (212), Tipton (219), Cass (264) and Peru (270).
West Lafayette's Lindsay Daluga covered the 3.1-mile course in 19:30 to take first place. Carmel runners took the next three spots.
Katie Hollingsworth, Ashley Gaskins and Jenn Elliott finished in the top 20 of the 74-runner field to lead Western. Hollingsworth (20:27) came in seventh place, Gaskins (21:42) finished 13th and Elliott (22:15) was 19th.
"I am very pleased. We had four girls who ran [personal-best times] and of the four, three of them were almost a minute faster than what they had run last weekend," Western coach Heather Yentes said, noting Hollingsworth, Gaskins, Bre Nicholas and Lacey Myer had personal-best times.
Northwestern put two runners in the top 25. Jennifer Claudio (21:55) took 16th and Hannah Ault (22:45) took 24th.
"They are running in their first 5K meet of the year," Northwestern coach Dave Stevens said of his runners. "Most of the teams have ran in a 5K meet already. We got beat by three ranked teams, and coming in fourth, the girls should be happy with their efforts. I am proud of all six of them."
Kokomo's Nicki Parry (21:02) and Tipton's Megan Harper (21:23) came in ninth and 10th to lead their respective teams. Kim Lane (22:52) finished 25th to lead Maconaquah, Britiani Gillem (23:49) took 37th to lead Cass.
And Tiffany Raber (24:28) finished 45th to lead Peru.
No. 2-ranked Carmel posted a score of 32 to take first place in the 13-team meet at Oakbrook Valley. West Lafayette (73), Zionsville (88), Oak Hill (101), Kokomo (149), Western (157), Rochester (244), Tipton (248), Eastbrook (254), Maconaquah (260), Peru (272), Northwestern (301) and Cass (336) rounded out the field.
Zionsville's Dylan Sorensen turned in a time of 16:29 to lead the field of 87 runners on the 3.1-mile course. Oak Hill's Cameron Balser (16:48) came in second.
Kokomo used a balanced effort to take fifth place. Devin White (17:57) finished 19th, Ian Holtson (18:12) was 24th and Brandon She-line (18:25) and Jordan Lee (18:26) finished 31st and 32nd, respectively, to lead the Red and Blue.
Western also had solid individual runs. Zac Martinez (17:44) finished 15th, Corey Scott (18:14) took 25th and Chris Love (18:24) took 30th to lead the Panthers.
"I Thought we did really well again," Western coach Joe Orr said. "The weather conditions were not ideal, but the course was in pretty good shape considering the rain we've had. My one and two runners, Zac and Corey, continue to run well. Our biggest surprise was probably Chris Love. I think he was the first freshman to finish from all the schools. That was good to see."
Aaron Garretson (17:33) came 'in 11th place to lead Peru, Brady Butler (17:37) followed in 13th place to lead Tipton and Kory Kennedy (17:56) took 18th place to lead Northwestern. Also, Bryce Comp (18:18) led Maconaquah with a 27th-place showing and Nate Wilson (19:22) paced Cass with a 56th-place finish.
