Western put together a pack of personal best times to edge Harrison for the Invitational title. The Panthers came in with 36 points while the Raiders finished in second with 43.
Annina Gruber (15:51) and Lacey Myer (16:46) finished 2-3 to lead the Panther pack, and Cassie Myer (17:08) also cracked the top 10 as she finished in eighth place. Fellow Panther runners Vanessa Lorenz (17:37) and Katie Hollingsworth (17:46) finished in 12th and 13th, respectively, and Callie Swigart (18:49) was 20th.
"We knew that it would be a good race with Harrison," Neer said. "Each of our runners set personal best times, either season or career. Vanessa Lorenz, Lacey Myer, Callie Swigart and Katie Hollingsworth all ran best times ever. Their final 800 meters were outstanding. They were able to pass several runners to make a close meet a winning meet."
Rossville Invitational - Boys
Harrison totaled 22 points to run away with the team title while Western finished in second place with a score of 57.
Luke Minor was the top Western runner as he covered the course in 17:34 to finish in fifth place. Also, for the Panthers, Trevor Mann (18:14) placed 11th, Jared hall (18:26) and Shawn Parkins (18:34) placed 12th and 13th respectively, and Alex Sigler (18:59) was 16th.
"We raced very strategic and solidly," Western coach Dana Neer said. "Parkins had a personal-best time by 20 seconds, and Sigler and Hall each had a personal-best time by over a minute. Each of them continue to improve each week."
