Carroll Invitational - Girls

A 2-3-4 finish by Annina Gruber, Anna Hurlock and Brittany Stellhorn over a 13:second period provided Western with the impetus it needed to win the team title, cassie Myer and Megan Clearwaters finished 13th and 14th overall to wrap up the Panthers' scoring.

"After running so well Saturday, we wanted to come and just run a solid meet. We didn't want to come out and be up and down, not focused," Panthers coach Dana Neer said. "This was a nice team effort and we were able to run a great race. Our JV ran a great race as well."

Eastern senior Laura Boltz came back with a strong effort to claim first in 16 minutes, 1 second with Gruber next at 16:17.

Winamac was runner-up in the cross country meet with Carroll third and Clinton Central fifth in the team standings. Eastern and Tri-Central were incomplete.

Courtney Rinehart took seventh for the Cougars and Addie Rayl ran a season-best time to lead TC in ninth.

Carroll Invitational - Boys

Western seniors Kyle Walsh and Jim Jackson ran 1-2 for the Panthers as they took the team title with 33 points. The host Cougars were second with 50. Eastern took fifth, Tri-Central seventh and Clinton Central was eighth.

Walsh ran the 5k race in 16 minutes, 32 seconds with classmate Jackson 14 seconds back. Michael Marley was seventh and Andy Snow came in 10th for Western. Jarred Beaver and Chris Miller followed the Panther duo in third and fourth for Carroll while Peter Woodruff was sixth.

Derek Woods topped the Comets, finishing ninth, while Ryan Gibson was first at 19th for Tri-Central

"We were focusing on Jim and Kyle getting fast mile times. We wanted them in the 4:50s and both were down there. Josh Shepherd ran a solid race,” Panthers’ head coach Dana Neer said. "We're starting to see some really solid performances from our 4, 5, 6 and 7 runners."
