Oak Hill Invitational - Girls

Eastern senior Laura Boltz and the Western girls team swept the biggest trophies Tuesday at the Oak Hill Cross Country Invitational.

Boltz was the first individual to cross the finish line, capturing the title in 15 minutes, 52 seconds. She edged out Jay County's Alyssa Johnson, who came in at 15:58.

Placing six girls among the first 11, the Panthers came out on top in the team battle with a strong score of; 27 while Jay' County was next at 37. Third went to the host Golden Eagles with 107. Peru was fourth at 132 with Tri-Central Was eighth. Eastern was incomplete.

Starting with Annina' Gruber's third-place finish and ending with the llth by Megan Clearwaters, the Panthers' top six runners were separated by just 1:13.

Gruber came in at 16:20 with Anna Hurlock in fourth at 16:26 and Brittany Stellhorn was sixth at 16:51. Becky Elliott grabbed ninth with Cassie Myer in 10th and Clearwaters llth in an eight-second span.

"I thought we could have six in the top 15 and we were shooting to get all .seven in the top 30," Western coach Dana Neer said. "The spread of 1:13 from first through sixth, I'm really pleased with that effort. We've been talking about getting Megan and Cassie a little closer to Becky and that happened"

Tri-Central sophomore Addie Rayl was in next finishing 13th while Amanda Rice topped Peru in 19th and Crystal Barker was 20th for the Comets.

Oak Hill Invitational - Boys

The host Golden Eagles proved to be the class of the field, winning with a score of 44, and Western nipped Blackford, 57-59, for third. Peru was fourth at 113 with Eastern fifth at 149. Tri-Central took eighth with a 231.

Western seniors Kyle Walsh and Jim Jackson chased Blackford's Adam Lenz over the course. Lenz won the title in 16:07 and Walsh came in second at 16:14. Jackson was third at 16:54. Michael Marley gave the Panthers their third runner in the top 10 as he finished ninth. Andy Snow, Luke Minor and Eric Walsh came in 21st, 22nd and 23rd respectively.

"We got six runners in the top 23 and Josh Shepherd came in at 33rd. We thought we came in and gave a very, very fine Oak Hill team a good race and beat a fine Blackford team," WHS coach Dana Near said. "Both teams [Western and Oak Hill] ran a 17:40 average. They just had a couple upperclassmen higher in the standings."

The Bengal Tigers were paced by the seventh of EI]iott Cohee and a 13th from Cody Siblisk. Derek Woods finished 12th to lead Eastern.
