Kokomo Tribune September 9, 2025By TRIBUNE STAFF Western senior Camden Raab ran to a first-place finish in the Harrison Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater in West Lafayette. The meet featured 23 teams. Raab covered the 5K course in a personal-best time of 15:29.8. "This was a good win for Camden," Western coach Gary Jewell said. "He ran a patient race near the front for the first 4 kilometers before surging into the lead with about 650 meters to go. He was able to open up a five-second lead and then maintained it to the finish." Miles Rudy, the Panthers' No. 2 runner, took fifth place in a personal-best 15:55.1. No. 19-ranked Westfield won the team title with a score of 93 points. No. 15 Penn (102) was runner-up, No. 25 Harrison (117) was third, Goshen (147) and Western (164) was fifth, just ahead of LaPorte (166) and Bloomington South (168). "We thought we could place in the top five and that's exactly where we finished," Jewell said. "When you look at the other teams in the top nine, you realize the enormity of the accomplishment. The average enrollment for those other eight schools is over 2,500. But that's why you compete in a meet like this. It prepares you for later in the season, especially at regional where large schools dominate the competition. "Having two guys like Camden and Miles who can place inside the top 10 in a field this large is a huge advantage in the team standings," he added. Maddox Carver was third for Western and 36th overall in a personal-best 16:49.1, Beck Bennett (17:04.6) was 42nd and Avery Franklin (18:06.5) was 74th. | |||
